
We are in a two brand new stores at a time when the economy makes it very challenging to just match last years numbers. Vehicle sales are down for everyone, so our dealerships are relying very heavy on the success of our service departments and repeat customers. The Honda store was UP in service sales 35% in Jan 2009 verses 2008. The Chevrolet-Cadillac store was UP in service sales 12% and our Quick Lube was UP 28 %. It's a pleasure watching customer digging through their purse to find "Their" punch tag, and the smile on their face when they see that last mark get punched and then go dancing out the door saying "The next one's free". He decided to conduct a 30-day study to see just how effective they were compared to his other marketing campaigns. Here are his findings and ROI for each:
Not only were the Punch-A-Deal® Key Tags responsible for 44% of their coupon responses, they cost less than 25% of their next most effective marketing program! Using 2003 data (latest available from NADA), the average customer RO is $201. That means the Punch-A-Deal® Key Tags were responsible for bringing in approximately $34,170 worth of business for the month, at a cost of $420. To calculate the cost for the program we took total RO's x 0.35 cents each. Since the Key Tags have multiple coupons (and are used repeatedly), the true cost is much less. This cost does NOT take into consideration that most of our customers are getting the entire cost of the Punch-A-Deal® Key Tags paid for using co-op dollars!

We started the Punch-A-Deal® Loyalty program in October 2005. Our program consists of buy 4 and get the 5th free. To date, we have redeemed 580 completed key tags. The additional labor only money on these 580 fully punched Tags was $101,294 or an average of $174.00/Punch-A-Deal. We have also noticed that customers are coming in every 3,000 miles when in the past it might be every 6,000 or 12,000 miles. I keep manual records which line out the additional monies we have brought in. Each sheet holds 36 customer names to a page. The first few records show the additional labor was $160-$170 where the most recent records show an increase to $250-$260./RO.
